LAGOS, Nigeria; 3rd October 2018

Nigeria’s leading news and press release distribution platform, NigeriaPresslog is collaborating with the University of Sussex, United Kingdom to organize a writing competition for young people with career ambitions in the media and communication industry.

With an objective to further develop media practice in Nigeria and beyond, NigeriaPresslog is welcoming entries from qualified candidates to take part in the writing competition tagged #WritingGamesNG.

To qualify for prizes, candidates are required to submit a 700-word article on the topic: ‘Nigeria’s Democracy in the Era of Fake News.’

Sponsored by the University of Sussex and NigeriaPresslog with support from Y!/YNaija and TheSparkleWritersHub, the competition is open to students of Nigerian higher institutions and Youth Corps members across the country.

Prizes for this year’s competition are detailed as follows:


– N50,000 cash prize

– Scholarship of up to £6,000 at the University of Sussex

– Certificate for outstanding performance

– One month internship


– N30,000 cash prize

– Certificate for outstanding performance

– One month internship


– N20,000 cash prize

– Certificate for outstanding performance

– One month internship


Terms and conditions of entry

IDs will be presented alongside entries.

By participating, entrants agree that their names, profiles, and images can be used for publicity purposes for the competition.

Entries must be 700 words and will be judged on the originality of ideas and creative approach to the topic.

**Winners will be announced on October 20, 2018.

**The organizers and judges have the final decision on winners.

***One scholarship of up to £6,000 will be awarded to the winner upon enrolment at the University of Sussex in September 2019 to study one of the following eligible courses:
International Journalism MA
Journalism and Documentary Practice MA
Journalism and Media Studies MA
Media Practice for Development and Social Change MA
Digital Media MA
Gender and Media MA
Media and Cultural Studies MA
Cultural and Creative Industries MA
