Imo deputy governor, Eze Madumere

The deputy governor of Imo state, Eze Madumere was on Monday impeached the state House of Assembly following a motion raised to that effect which was supported by 19 out of 27 lawmakers.

A six-man committee had earlier been set up to investigate accusations of abandonment of duties leveled against Madumere.

According to The Cable, the House had suspended lawmakers who spoke or acted in favour of the deputy governor.

Madumere is said to be in the governorship race.

Labaran Madari, representing Warawa constituency in the Kano state House of Assembly moved the motion to impeach the Speaker, Abdullahi Ata.

Ata was impeached on Monday alongside two other principal officers in the House.

However, Alhaji Kabiru Rurum, the immediate-past speaker who was impeached over corruption allegations was immediately voted in as a replacement.

Benue governor, Samuel Ortom

Following his defection from the APC to the PDP last week, Governor Samuel Ortom was on Monday served an impeachment notice by eight lawmakers from his former party.

According to Premium Times, the said lawmakers took over the state parliament with the assistance of the Police and served the impeachment notice.

The eight lawmakers reportedly also have the support of the former Benue governor, George Akume.

Reacting to the move, Governor Ortom said, “As a law-abiding citizen, I believe in the rule of law and I will pursue it to tackle this illegality… Is it an offence to join any party of my choice? I appeal to Mr. President to rise and protect our democracy”
